Kick The Habit: Lost '80s Treasure Unearthed After 35 Years!
Back in the late ’80s, three young talents - Rick and Remon Melsert, along with Paul Nieuwenhuijsen - teamed up with the legendary Michiel van der Kuy to craft a demo called "She". Their project, Kick The Habit, aimed to fuse their creativity with Michiel's unmistakable synth magic, sprinkled with the emerging sounds of early house. But for reasons lost to time, the project was shelved, disappearing into the shadows for over three decades. Now, 35 years later, this forgotten gem has been resurrected, thanks to Michiel himself, Sergi Elias, and the diggers at Vintage Pleasure Boutique. Breathing new life into the demo, Polish duo Prospero, renowned for their cascading synth arrangements & echoes of Laser Dance’s golden days, have polished it into a pure ’80s masterpiece. The 10-track EP serves as a time capsule, blending the shimmering 1986-87 space synth sound with the house-influenced energy of Michiel’s later TR-909-powered productions from 1989-91. It’s a dazzling mix of nostalgia and untapped potential, capturing the essence of an era while showcasing the timeless magic of Kick The Habit.
