Redesigning setup: moving to almost 100% in the box/DAW : Info/recommendations needed :)

Hi,

While working on my second album and rethinking my workflow i decided to switch to a almost 100% in the box/daw workflow.
Now selling the few synths i have (my JX-3P is already sold) and looking for a Jupiter Xm (Jupiter X would be even better but the price difference is too much).
The Jupiter Xm combined with the vst's i use should be sufficient and also leaves some extra breathing space in mij small room 6234345
As my pc is having difficulties/ needs replacement i'm also going to upgrade it.
And as i'm selling most of my synths, my K1-II will also leave (i use it as masterkeyboard, really like the keybed. For the sound i use the excellent Nils' K1v vst).

A few questions:
1) Does anyone have experience using the Jupiter X(m) in Spacesynth? I think it should be a great match with it's Juno, JX-8P and Jupiter model expansions :)

2) What kind of pc (or mac) setup do you guys use?

3) Any good recommendations for a masterkeyboard (at least 61 keys, aftertouch). I'm not very found of completely weighted keys. My previous controller was a Roland D70 and i really liked the semi weighted keys witch are a bit clicky and not 100% piano like (if you understand what i mean).

The Roland Jupiter XM uses the exact same sound engine as the Zenology VST. Why spend that big amount of money to only have to track one synth part at a time when instead you could be using a instance of Zenology complete with all the expansions on every channel of you daw. If you don't like the Roland subscription then you could just buy it outright and still save lots of money. It's really well suited for spacesynth. All the Roland classics like the 6, 60, 106, 3P, 8P, D50, JD800, JV1080 are all on there. It has a huge library. You could write spacesynth using that vst alone.
The money saved could buy you a much larger spec of audio pc like the one I have.

As for master keyboards I can recommend the Native Instruments ones. They will interface will all your NI vst's and even vst's from other companies. It's really the best option for ITB production. The Novation ones are good as well.

Thanks for the info.
I'm already familair with Zenology Pro but it takes a lot of time to load and is very cpu hungry (although a new high-end pc would solve that partly).
I also like the idea to have one synth i can quickly turn on and start playing to work out small ideas (no sequencing needed).
The Jupiter Xm outputs 5 parts using usb audio and has a vocoder which by default isn't very impressing but using the Vocal Designer expension it is very nice.

I will check out the Native Instruments ones :)

Thanks for the tips!!

Yea I too wanted a Jupiter XM (and still do) but I had a limited budget and I chose the high end pc instead. I don't regret my decision as I spend 90% of my time working in the box anyway and I now have CPU power that I could only dream of with my old pc.
Let us know what you decide and if it's the Jupiter then send us photos.

Have you tried the Jupiter Xm? Many people have stated that the interface is not good to work with.

You mean the user interface?
It's a compromise if you look at the Jupiter X and if you want a one button one function interface it's not good.
But i'm mostly interested in basic settings using knobs, if i want to build complete patches i will use the Zenology Pro/XM editor.

I bought a used one for a very nice price a few days ago, should be here in a few days. I will post my opinion after using it :)

This weekend i changed my small setup to almost 100% in the DAW, suppored by a Roland Jupiter Xm (what a synth 8776654 )

As masterkeyboard i selected a Nektar Impact GXP49, great keybed. Exactly what i was looking for.
I normally use masterkeyboards with 61 keys but 49 is enough for now.
I also wanted some pads (which the GXP49 doesn't have) so i bought a Presonus Atom pad.

And if that's not enough, i'm thinking about moving from FL Studio to Cubase (i am now trying Cubase LE which came with the Nektar).
