Synthdance Label

Post by Neospace »

When Anton and I started this website we had some ideas about the things we can do in the future.

One of the things we talked about was to start our own record label, because we think it would be a nice platform to promote spacesynth music.

At first we might bring a compilation album like space holidays or spacesynth ru, and maybe later help producers to release and promote their music.

Our questions are: What do you expect from us?
Do you want releases on CD or vinyl or just digital?
Are you willing to share the cost for cd or vinyl production?
We can create a shop to sell the music and distribute it, would this add anything to your normal ways? (Bandcamp and such)

Please tell us your thoughts on how to approach this 🙂

You know I was actually thinking about this idea this morning on the train to work. You beat me to it :)
I think starting a synthdance.com label would be the natural evolution of this website. I mean lets face it with the exception of Librina we are all producers in here. Why not take advantage of that and use our combined talents to provide a yearly alternative to ZYX and Spacesound Records annual compilations. It could also be a good way attracting more members to the portal.

To answer your questions:
What do you expect from us? Some digital promotion, help with artwork etc. Who would do mastering?
Do you want releases on CD or vinyl or just digital? Digital, but option for limited run of vinyl and CD if demand is there.
Are you willing to share the cost for cd or vinyl production? I would be happy to contribute. I think the label should invest in some crypto to raise capital for the future. I am willing to contribute a stake in that.
We can create a shop to sell the music and distribute it, would this add anything to your normal ways? (Bandcamp and such) I think it would make sense for the label to have it's own webshop. Why include third parties who would only take a cut.

I think we could start something like the Space Odyssey. A digital (free for now) compilation for the New Year's Eve or for the Easter. Although I think some composers may find this idea a bit too demanding if we consider we all have to make tracks for at least 3-4 compilations a year. We can start something like this and see how it goes

Okay thanks for your replies, I think we must just start this and see where it goes. I will start building the shop soon.

More ideas and input is welcome 🙂

Maybe we should divide it up among producers. Space holidays is usually a 3 and sometimes 4 disc compilation. If we could make arrangements with Marek to reduce space holidays to 2 discs and we get the rest?
