Vanello
Vanello, born Razvan Dumitru Voicu, is a Romanian music composer and producer based in Bucharest. His work primarily focuses on recreating the electronic sounds of the 1980s, blending them with his unique style. Beyond this, he composes across various genres, including chill-out, epic/cinematic, pop, rock, pop-opera, funky, and Latino.
Early Life and Musical Beginnings
From a young age, Vanello exhibited a passion for rhythm, often creating beats using objects around his room. At 15, he composed his first full piece on a small Casio SA20 keyboard, later titled “The Little Dreamer” as a nod to his childhood aspirations. In 2000, he released his debut electronic music album, “Sideral,” drawing inspiration from artists like Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis. The following year, some of his tracks were featured in a university TV documentary about science and technology, which was showcased across Europe and Asia.
Notable Collaborations and Releases
Vanello has collaborated with various international artists throughout his career. His track “Parisienne Girl,” produced for Italian singer Ryan Paris, secured a spot in Radio Stad Den Haag’s Italo Top 100 of All Time and was released on vinyl by Iventi D’Azurro Records in the Netherlands. In 2013, he teamed up with UK singer Steven Kimber for “SOS For Love,” which charted in Canada’s Eurodance Hits and reached number one in RM80’s New Generation Italo Disco chart. Two years later, he collaborated with Swedish singer Martin Blix on “Vagabondo,” which held the top position in Club 80s’ New Generation Italo NRG TOP 40 for four consecutive months.
In 2016, Vanello’s remix of Moderno’s “My Angel” reached number one in the RMI chart and became a fan favorite on YouTube. That same year, “The King of the Summer,” another collaboration with Steven Kimber, peaked at number two in the RMI chart. His 2017 release, “Digital Love,” also featured Steven Kimber and received positive acclaim.
Albums and Recent Work
In 2020, Vanello released “Planet Synth,” a collection of his most successful space-themed melodies, offering listeners a cosmic journey through analog and digital synthesizer sounds. The following year, he reunited with Steven Kimber for a cover of Blue System’s “Magic Symphony,” featured on the compilation “10 Shades of Grey” by Belgian label Asahi Music. His 2023 single, “Misionar,” delves into the missions humans undertake in life. In 2024, he released “The Rally,” a synth-driven cover of the Romanian movie theme “Raliul,” originally composed by Florin Bogardo in 1984; this track was also included in ZYX Music’s compilation “Italo Disco Space Synth vol 10.”
